Forward Gabby O’Sullivan puts Fremantle’s 15-point win over the Bulldogs down to a full team performance, with many of her teammates putting up big numbers on the stats sheet.
Usual midfield suspects Hayley Miller and Katie-Jayne Grieve were among O’Sullivan’s best, both collecting 14 disposals each and generating plenty of ball out of the midfield.
Kiara Bowers was dominant all day, with 21 disposals (including 17 kicks) and 12 tackles to her name.
Bowers’ 12 tackles saw her break her own record for the most tackles in an AFLW home and away season, with 85 tackles so far after six games in 2020.
O’Sullivan said Bowers set the tone early in the match.
“Turbo definitely in the first quarter - she was just laying tackles left right and centre,” O’Sullivan said.
“Hayley Miller generated a bit of run for us and KJ set the tone for the rest of the game.
“I think that’s how we were able to get over the top, but I think it was a really good spread.”
The Bulldogs clash was arguably Ebony Antonio’s best for the season, collecting 19 disposals and 10 tackles.
O’Sullivan praised the way Antonio stepped up and lifted her game to another level.
“Epps always seems to find another gear when you think we might be done,” O’Sullivan said.
“Epps always seems to raise the bar and lift the standard which makes everyone else lift to her standards.
I’ve played with Epps a long time, so I know what she has got in her.
“She is super athletic and seems to always find a way somehow.”
Playing a defensive forward role in recent weeks, the first goal of Laura Pugh’s AFLW career seemed inevitable.
The biggest celebration of the day came as Pugh kicked truly in the second term.
“We thought she was going to get one in the first term!” O’Sullivan said,
“I think I gave her the ball in that first quarter after she (earned a free kick) for holding the ball, and I gave her a smile.
“The one she did kick was probably the hard one.
“We love Pughy and we all got around her when she kicked that one.”
