Fremantle midfielder Hayden Young said the team will look to bring a ruthless mindset in the hope of a strong bounce back against fifth-placed Adelaide at Optus Stadium on Friday night.
Fremantle host the Crows on ANZAC Day in the Club's annual Len Hall Tribute game.
Speaking at his Monday afternoon media conference, Young said the team had some clear areas they will look to rectify after an extensive review of the weekend’s loss to Melbourne.
“We watched some clips (in review) that were pretty uncomfortable,” Young said.
“(There were) opportunities where we could have shown a bit more physicality, put our name on the ball or run harder defensively.
“Those sorts of areas will be focuses (for Adelaide).
“(Melbourne) transitioned the ball from back half too easily.
“I think Adelaide are the number one team for scoring from their back half so basically in a nutshell that’s the focus.”
Going down in the clearance battle (33-38) and contested possession count (116-134), Young said the group was frustrated at the inconsistency from week to week.
“It’s been frustrating because there has been a bit of a gap (between our best and worst),” Young said.
“We feel like our best footy in those areas (contested and clearance game) when we bring it beats anyone.
“If you're off by a couple of percent in any area you’ll get touched up and that’s what happened on the weekend.”
Young said the group had addressed the need to bring a harder edge as they prepare for the crucial Len Hall Tribute game on Friday.
“When we play with a ruthless mindset—almost a back-against-the-wall mindset—we are a better team,” Young said.
“When we get too comfortable with how we’re going, we just lose that ruthlessness. That got brought up today and is something we will take into next week.”
