Fremantle forward Ashley Sharp has praised her teammates for their four-quarter effort in Freo’s 18-point win over Brisbane at Fremantle Oval on Sunday.
Sabreena Duffy and Kiara Bowers were among the best in purple, as Freo cemented themselves as the only remaining side left unbeaten across the women’s competition.
Sharp said Duffy’s forward line presence is a credit to her hard work, week in and week out on the training track.
It was Duffy's second four-goal performance so far in 2020, her first coming in Freo's season opener against Geelong.
The sharp-shooter currently sits atop the competition's leading goal kicker tally, with nine majors so far in 2020.
“Sabs was awesome, she’s improved so much,” Sharp said.
“I’ve known ‘Sabs’ for a long time and her footy just gets better and better every year.
“That’s a credit to her and the hard work she puts in every week at training.”
Bowers was up to her usual tricks, finishing the match with 22 disposals and 15 tackles to her name.
Sharp said Bowers’ ability to lift her teammates to another level is a significant factor to the performance of Freo’s midfield group so far this season.
“That’s just ‘Turbo’, she’s amazing and she sets the standards every week for the other midfielders in there to lift,” Sharp said.
“She gets everyone up and about and we love having her on our team that’s for sure.”
Falling on International Women's Day, Freo's clash with Brisbane held further significance for Sharp and her teammates.
Sharp said having the young kids of assistant coaches Amy Lavell and Lisa Webb around the group, serves as a reminder of their role model status to young Freo fans.
“In our team we’ve got little Leo (Webb) and Harvey (Lavell) and it just shows that women are so important in this club,” Sharp said.
“It's a credit to all the mums and all the hard work they do driving their kids to training everyday."
Sharp was back to her best, kicking two first term goals, helping to set up Freo’s win in the early stages of the match.
The 22-year-old said her ability to hit the scoreboard early, meant her confidence set in for the remainder of the day.
“It was good, I’ve been down on form a bit lately, so it felt good,” Sharp said.
“I got my confidence up with both goals in the first quarter, so I think I really set myself up for the rest of the game.
“I feel really good, the girls really pulled through and we worked hard for four quarters.
“We got the result at the end of the day.”
Alongside captain Kara Antonio, the Brisbane clash was Sharp’s 25th milestone game for Fremantle, who is in her fourth season with the club.
“I had no idea until I saw it this morning!” Sharp said.
“I’m four seasons in now, I love this club and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else."
