Trent, it doesn't get much closer than that? How relieved are you?
Extremely. That's two weeks in a row that we've in some ways got out of jail. We played good enough to win today and just missed a few opportunities but full credit to St Kilda, they just fought the whole day and made it really difficult for us to play our style of football. But yes, relieved to get there in the end.
What went through your mind when McDonald put the ball down on the ground and gave away the 50m penalty?
I was yelling 50 from the box, not that anyone could hear me. I saw it happen and I feel really sorry for her. Probably would've been nice if we had kicked a couple more girls so, for her, we didn't win by one point. It was quite ironic that it was our Irish player that realised it was 50m as well.
Did you notice the scoreboard at the ground wasn't right?
We realised that the scoreboard was wrong and tried to get the message out (to the girls) but it's also pretty hard to get the runner out there at that stage, but it corrected before the end.
In junior sport is there much in the way of ACL prevention rather than just when girls are in the AFLW system?
When I coached the State 18s there wasn't a lot happening then, but now we get their strength and conditioning coaches down to our training to see what we're doing and they're taking it back to work with those younger players. So hopefully, we won't know for a few years if it's going to make a difference, but hopefully that earlier start with the ACL prevention will help down the track.
You're the only undefeated team in the AFLW team, it must be exciting to get the road trip out of the way and win?
It's not really getting road trips out of the way. We like getting away. The girls have got such full lives, they work, they go to training, they come back and see partners and family. When we get away, they can get away for a bit and it's actually a bit of nice down time for them. So we look forward to getting away and to be honest, we probably would've preferred a road trip a little bit earlier, but that's just the way the fixture worked, and we capitalised with the three home wins but I think we will still end up covering the second most kilometres in the competition and we are more than happy to do that, it's good fun. A bit of table tennis while we are away and enjoy it.
Who's the table tennis champ?
I think Janelle Cuthbertson. I haven't taken her on yet but she looks pretty good. She's a former grand slam tennis player so i might leave her alone.
