Fremantle’s good start to the season can be attributed to the team’s high standards expected of each player, according to midfielder Danyle Pearce.
Freo has defeated Port Adelaide and Geelong in the opening two rounds, and Pearce said there is a clear expectation from the playing group each and every week.
“We all expect 100 per cent from each teammate,” he said.
“The guy standing beside me, I expect 100 per cent from him as he would from me.
“It’s just great to see us deliver.
“We have a high standard set for ourselves…Geelong had an all-time great midfield and they were missing a couple of players, but we knew they were still going to be tough.
“We had to be switched on and we were.”
Despite plenty of noise regarding Freo’s 2015 prospects, Pearce said that meant nothing to the playing group and coaching staff.
“Behind closed doors, we expect more from ourselves than the outside world expect of us,” he said.
“We just gave 100 per cent effort (against Geelong).
“We would be really down on ourselves if we didn’t play the brand of footy that we want to play, but we felt we did and we were satisfied with the performance.”
Fremantle take on West Coast in the Carlton Draught Derby this Sunday, but even though the Eagles will be without injured stars Mitch Brown, Eric McKenzie and Scott Selwood, Pearce believes the game won’t be any easier.
MATCH PREVIEW
“I’m pretty sure we all watched the game on the weekend (against Carlton) and how dangerous they looked,” he said.
“Their forwards…(Josh) Kennedy kicking 10, their midfield were up and about, (Matt) Rosa tagging…they look on key.
“We’ve got to make sure we match that intensity and meet them head on come Sunday.”
Freo takes on West Coast in the Carlton Draught Derby on Sunday 19 April.
