Main Roads WA has confirmed that the Matagarup Bridge will be open for Fremantle fans to get to Optus Stadium for Sunday’s clash with Port Adelaide.
The 370m bridge over the Swan River links East Perth with the stadium precinct, adding another option for fans to get to and from games.
Matagarup Bridge is named after the area around the nearby Heirisson Island - meaning a place where the Swan River is quite shallow, allowing it to be crossed.

With limited parking options in East Perth, fans are encouraged to take public transport instead of driving to the bridge. The cost of public transport to and from the bridge is included in the ticket price to all Fremantle home games at Optus Stadium.
For those taking the train, Claisebrook train station is a 15-minute walk to the East Perth side of the bridge.
To accommodate the opening of the bridge, the Public Transport Authority has announced a change to bus routes.
Bus route 661 will now take a modified circular route via Wellington Street, Milligan Street, and Adelaide/St Georges Terraces to East Perth.
The route will no longer enter Elizabeth Quay Bus Station, so passengers will need to board from St Georges Terrace (Stops 10116 and 10119).
The PTA also confirmed the following changes to a number of departure stands for existing bus routes including;
Route 650 (Karrinyup) will now depart from stands 18 - 22
Route 654 (Ellenbrook Town Centre) will now depart from stands 12 and 13, on the west side of Perth Stadium Bus Station
Route 656 (Canning Vale) will now depart from stands 10 and 11
Route 657(Curtin University) will now depart from stands 8 and 9.
The crossing of the bridge adds further meaning to Sunday’s game, which is the 2018 NAIDOC game, presented by Woodside.
Fremantle will wear their purple ‘home’ Indigenous jumper on the day as a part of the NAIDOC Week celebrations.
