Stephen Hill and Garrick Ibbotson could be described as Fremantle’s Jekyll and Hyde.

Both are in line to play their 150th AFL game in Saturday’s Qualifying Final at Domain Stadium on Saturday but their football stories are utterly different.

Hill is a silky left-footer, whose sublime run through the middle has become a cornerstone of Fremantle’s recent success.

Ibbotson is a no-nonsense footballer and ever-reliable defender, who has carved a career out of reading the ball like a book.

Hill will reach his 150th game aged 25 while Ibbotson will be 27, after an injury prone career.

Brother's success ignites Hill

Ibbotson missed the entire 2013 finals series, when Fremantle reached its first Grand Final, due to an achilles injury in round 18.

He has played every game so far this season, a feat he had only achieved once before in 2009.

In stark contrast, Hill has played more than 20 games in all but one of his seven seasons at Fremantle.

The midfielder said his consistent appearances were down to luck and the club’s medical and physiotherapy staff.

“I try to prepare well,” he said.

“We have good physios and doctors looking after us…I haven’t had too many injuries.

“To be able to play one AFL game when I started was a dream, to be able to play what I have now is very fortunate.”

Ibbotson said his injuries were frustrating but did not diminish his career memories.

Five named in All Australian squad

“It’s probably helped me in bits and pieces,” he said.

“When I finish and look back at the ups and downs I’ve had along the way, I’ll appreciate it more.”

Ibbotson said it was exciting to play his 150th in a final but the focus was on team success once the pair crossed the white line.

“It will be in front of a full house at home, we’ll shake each others hand but then it’s game time,” he said.
