Peter Bell was part of Fremantle’s first finals campaign in 2003 and he wants to see the club continue to push deep into September.
Bell became the first Fremantle player inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame last week and said he hoped he had helped the club come of age during his 163 games for Freo.
The former club captain said he enjoyed watching the team play in regular finals series, something that was elusive during his tenure.
“I’d like to think in a small way that some of the players you see taking all before them now were in some way influenced by the years I was there,” he said.
“We played finals for the first time and we won a final for the first time.”
The story behind our Hall of Famer
Bell was full of praise for the current playing group’s abilities.
“In the words of their own coach, they are going to write their own story,” he said.
“I’m a bystander watching on and hoping for the best.”
