Growing as an individual and becoming a positive role model are the reasons Ben Miller is a participant in the 2015 Live the Dream program presented by Decmil.
The 17-year-old is a coach of a junior football team and said he hoped the program would also help with his coaching skills.
“If I can take back a lot of the things I learn in the program and be able to apply them to the players that will be great,” Ben said.
“Learning how to transition the skills we acquire to use in our local towns is really important.”
The 16 participants completed a ropes course in Point Walter on Saturday morning which Ben said was a great opportunity to get to know each other.
“Everyone was challenged and a lot of people faced their fears, it was really good for the group to be involved in a team bonding exercise.”
“At first we were in our little groups, but just through doing those activities everyone has grown a lot closer and we are really getting along well.”
Originally from Dunsborough, Ben grew up playing football with Freo midfielder Connor Blakely, who he had the chance to watch playing for Peel on Saturday afternoon at Medibank Stadium.
“Connor is a friend from down south, so it’s good to be able to watch him,” Ben said.
“Hayden Crozier is also my player mentor for the program and I had a really good chat and laugh with him on Friday night at dinner.”
“He seems like a really great guy.”
The 16 Live the Dream participants will head to Domain Stadium on Sunday 5 July to play in the curtain raiser before Fremantle take on Brisbane at 2.40pm.
