Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon says Fremantle will learn from its 27-point loss to Richmond and bounce back against the Gold Coast.
Tigers ruin Freo's perfect start
Lyon told 6PR on Monday that the side needed to stick to its structures to avoid a repeat of last week’s performance, after the Tigers burst out of the blocks to lead by as much as 49 points in the first half.
Lyon praised Richmond’s effort but admitted Fremantle was off in a few areas.
“Their pressure was good,” he said.
“I didn’t think we spread the ball very well.
“They jumped us and we made some fundamental defensive errors.”
Pressure needs to rise
Lyon said the AFL was a brutal competition and if any team was slightly off its game the opposition could pounce.
“It’s a sharp reminder that we need to work together really well,” he said.
“We need to stick to our principles, otherwise you get rocked pretty quickly in this competition.”
Lyon said he was happy with how the team responded in the second half but said it was important to learn from the loss.
We'll learn from loss
“I lost no respect for our group at all and I was really pleased with the way they fought on,” he said.
“You can lose and go forward, or lose and go backwards.”
Fremantle play Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Saturday 13 June. Bounce down is at 1.40pm local time.
