Accuracy
Fremantle kicked 10.7 while Hawthorn kicked 15.4. At key times, Freo missed clutch goals. Chris Mayne’s missed set shot in the first term thwarted momentum, after Freo kicked the first two goals. There were plenty of other missed chances too. Players will spend the summer regretting a number of shots.
Fyfe’s leg
It has been a talking point for weeks. Inflammation in Fyfe’s left fibula has had him on light duties in recent weeks. The AFLPA MVP copped a knock early, which seems to aggravate the injury, he limped for the remainder of the game but collected 24 touches.
Stats
Fremantle won plenty of key stats such as contested possession count 143 to 126, hit-outs 51 to 22, and lost the inside-50 count by just one. Freo dominated the clearances 43 to 28 while Hawthorn dominated the disposals count 422 to 382.
Purple Army
All year the Freo faithful has been vocal and unwavering in its suppourt. The players spoke all week about their love of Fremantle’s members and supporters. Despite the heartbreaking loss, thousands remained in their seats to cheer off the team.
