Fremantle defender Garrick Ibbotson says he would love to have All Australian Michael Johnson back in the side for Sunday’s Carlton Draught Derby.
Johnson, who injured his hamstring against Richmond in round 10, is in the mix to face West Coast at Domain Stadium, after nine weeks on the sidelines.
The veteran defender would further bolster Fremantle’s defensive stocks after Alex Silvagni played his first game for the year in Sunday’s win over St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.
Fellow defender Zac Dawson will also be available for selection next week, after serving a suspension for striking.
Ibbotson said Johnson was a key player.
Fyfe in, McPharlin in doubt
“I can’t wait to have him back because he is a star,” he said.
“Whether he’ll play this week or not, I’m not sure.
“He has been training really well and is close to coming back.
“I’d love to have him back in the side.”
Ibbotson was full of praise for Silvagni, who was strong in his first game of the season.
“He is great to have out there, he put his body on the line,” he said.
“That’s the way he plays and we love him for it.”
