Brent Guerra says he has learned a lot more about the game he loves watching from the boundary line as a coach.

The two-time premiership player, along with premiership players David Hale and Anthony Rock, has been added to Fremantle’s coaching group for the 2016 season.

Guerra won two flags with Hawthorn and retired in 2013 after 255 games at the Hawks, Port Adelaide and St Kilda.

Since then he has worked as a part-time development coach with Hawthorn and a player-coach in Victorian local leagues.

“I learned a lot quickly as a player-coach, sitting on the sidelines, you definitely get a different perspective on the game,” Guerra said.

“There is a lot you don’t see as a player that you pickup as a coach.”

Guerra faced off against Fremantle in the 2013 Grand Final and said he had kept a close-eye on the emerging side ever since.

“Fremantle is a club that’s had a big influence in the game in recent years,” he said.

“I want to come over and have a positive influence on the club and help continue its success.”

Guerra said to work with Fremantle’s coaching group led by senior coach Ross Lyon would be a privilege.

“I consider Ross Lyon among the best coaches in the league,” he said.

“It will be a great learning experience to work alongside him and the other coaches.

“I’m really looking forward to it.”
