Although Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon admits he isn’t a huge cricket fan, he took a moment to reflect on the passing of Australian cricket legend Richie Benaud.

The former Test captain and broadcast commentator died at the age of 84.

Lyon heard the news on the radio this morning as he drove into Fremantle Oval for training.

“As a kid we all sat on the couch and grew up with Richie Benaud,” Lyon said.

“He was obviously a great cricketer, an esteemed commentator and shifted the dynamics of commentary.

“At the end of the day, he was a great person who achieved a lot, he’ll loved by his family and he’ll be missed.

“He left some deep footprints, didn’t he?”
