Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon will today name his 22-man squad for the match against Geelong, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it will be the 22 running out on to Simonds Stadium.

Lyon yesterday included Tendai MzunguMatt Taberner and Hayden Crozier in the extended squad, but believes the final team won’t be decided until the team arrives and assesses the conditions in Geelong.

“We’ll get through today and we’ll travel two of the emergencies anyway,” Lyon said.

“Really, you can make a late change because they don’t have to play at Peel if anything goes wrong.

“We’ll get over there, we’ll assess, see the wind and the conditions and then finalise things.

Lyon hinted at some changes despite last week’s seven-point round 1 victory over Port Adelaide.

“You just can’t pick the same 22 because you won the week before, although I tend to do that a bit,” he said.

“You’ve got to think of the opposition and how many talls and smalls and what types they’ve got.

“We maybe need some slight adjustments.”

When asked if any players dropped from the winning line-up would take it to heart, Lyon thought otherwise.

“They understand the industry we’re in and there’s no guarantees,” he said.

“And to be truthful, I didn’t think we played exceptionally well last week.

“I thought our effort was supreme, but we were sloppy with the ball, our entry stuff was really quite poor, some of our movement out of defence wasn’t of the standard we want.

“And defensively, we were really quite sloppy by our standards, so I see enormous improvement in us and the players recognise that themselves, they said the same thing.

“The good signs are we compete, we’re fit and we can run, but we need to mechanically get a bit better than we were.

Freo takes on Geelong at Simonds Stadium on Sunday 12 April.
