Bubbles, footies and face-painted fans filled Fremantle Oval on Sunday morning, for the annual Freo Dockers Family Fun Day.

The morning started with a football clinic for fans, before the players arrived to join in the activities and take part in a signing session.

Going into his 14th AFL season, captain Matthew Pavlich said the event was a great way for members and supporters to connect with the playing group.

“I remember growing up and idolising some AFL players, so to be able to come down and get involved with our fans and meet them and get an autograph is something I understand because it was something I did as a kid,” Pavlich said.

In between photos and autographs, Pavlich spent most of his time teaching future footy stars some tackling lessons and said it was a day that he thoroughly enjoyed.

“It’s good to be able to teach the kids about footy, but mainly the day is just about having fun.”

After the footy activities and signing session were over, Ross Lyon presented the new recruits their jumpers for season 2013.

Danyle Pearce, Josh Simpson, Tanner Smith, Max Duffy, Jack Hannath, Matt Taberner, Alex Howson and Craig Moller were welcomed on stage to a loud applause from the Freo faithful.

Freshly inducted into the Leadership Group, Chris Mayne joined Matthew Pavlich, Aaron Sandilands, David Mundy, Luke McPharlin and Hayden Ballantyne on stage as they addressed the crowd.

Mayne said he was looking forward to the season ahead, and had no concerns about his recent injury scare.

“It’s a good sign that I’m up and about at the moment, I’m walking and feeling good so that’s a good sign,” Mayne said.

Overall, the day was a great success with players and fans enjoying the sunshine and footy festivities.
