Fremantle key forward Michael Apeness could hardly contain his excitement after finding out of his selection for Freo’s clash with Essendon on Saturday night.
“It’s really exciting to be able to get out there with the boys on the weekend and I can’t wait,” Apeness said.
“I’m looking forward to playing alongside guys like (Matthew) Pavlich, ‘Barra’ (David Mundy) and just trying to get the win and enjoy the game.”
TABTouch 22: Key forward returns
The 200cm forward, who last played in round 17, 2014, said he’s ready for the challenge of AFL football after working hard to return from two knee injuries.
“The body is feeling pretty good, I know it’s a step up to the AFL but I’m looking forward to battling it out against Essendon.”
Apeness has performed well at the WAFL and presents a solid combination of size, athleticism, and aerobic capacity, according to senior coach Ross Lyon.
“He’s a really good runner for his size,” Lyon said.
“He’d be in our top eight at the club for his endurance and he’s got a natural genetic disposition to be able to run, which is nice for a 200cm guy and he’s really competitive (as well).”
