The prospect of seeing Harley Bennell play his first game for Fremantle this Saturday isn’t just exciting for Freo fans, but for teammates as well.
The smooth-moving recruit has been training strongly since returning from a calf injury that interrupted his pre-season, and is on track to make his first NAB Challenge appearance in 2016.
“Obviously we have a training session to get through on Thursday first,” Nick Suban said.
“But if all goes well, and we all get through that alright then Harley should play.”
Bennell’s on-field ability is highly regarded at Fremantle, especially following his 37 possession, three goal effort against Freo in 2012 when he played for the Gold Coast Suns.
But it has been Bennell’s performance since returning to the main training group that has impressed Suban the most
“He’s a very exciting player,” he said.
“Just going by the last training session we had, he was getting lots of the ball and utilising his great skills.”
Saturday’s game against Geelong couldn’t come quickly enough for Suban, with playing alongside his new teammate being an exciting prospect.
“We’re all looking forward to him getting the purple on.”
