Fremantle on Wednesday confirmed the latest change to the club’s playing list.
Alex Silvagni was advised that his contract would not be extended into 2017.
Silvagni played 53 games in his seven seasons at Fremantle, which also included a Best Clubman Award in 2014 and a long association as an ambassador for the Starlight Children’s Foundation, one of the club’s principal charity partners.
General manager of football operations Chris Bond said the 29-year-old was a quality person held in high regard by everyone at the club.
“Alex came to the club via the rookie list and worked really hard to get elevated to the primary list and play a fair bit of senior footy in his debut season,” Bond said.
“Unfortunately, opportunities for Alex to secure a regular spot in the senior side in subsequent seasons were hampered by injury.
“Throughout that time though, Alex always displayed the many fine attributes that make him the quality person he is, and saw him held in the highest regard by everyone at Fremantle.
“We thank Alex for the contribution he made to the club both on and off the field, and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
Silvagni was recruited from the Casey Scorpions in the 2009 Rookie Draft and made his debut against Adelaide in round one of 2010 after a strong showing in the NAB Cup pre-season competition.
Renowned for his physicality, Silvagni played 15 games in his first season at Fremantle, but illness crippled his 2011 campaign, missing the first 13 rounds before returning against Brisbane in round 14 and going on to play nine games.
The key defender struggled to break into the Fremantle backline in 2012 and was limited to just five games, although he did return to the side in the finals that year when Luke McPharlin was injured.
2013 saw Silvagni in-and-out of the team, a year in which he played 10 games.
Battles with injury severely limited his opportunities in the following seasons, when he managed just 14 games across three seasons.
