Fremantle's reigning best and fairest Aaron Sandilands says he is more concerned about getting through the next training session than his future beyond 2016.
The four-time All Australian ruckman is in the final year of his contract after signing a one-year extension last year.
Sandilands, 33, had one of his most consistent seasons last year, playing 23 of a possible 24 matches and claiming his second Doig Medal.
The veteran said he had not given 2017 any thought at all.
"It's only January," Sandilands said on Monday.
"I'm just worried about getting from one session to the next."
Sandilands said he was still motivated to train hard and he would only consider retirement when that motivation disappeared.
"The day I get out of bed and don't want to go to training is the day that I'll walk away," Sandilands said.
Sandilands said his body was in excellent shape, having had a surgery-free off-season.
He has played 26 out of a possible 28 matches in the past two seasons after managing just 37 out of the previous 71 due to a number of injury issues.
Sandilands optimistic about fit Freo
The Fremantle Dockers have managed his training loads exceptionally well over the past couple of years and he has been ever-present at Fremantle's main sessions throughout the summer so far.
Sandilands joked that Matthew Pavlich's decision to play on in 2016 had given him extra motivation.
"It keeps me looking young when Pav's hanging around," Sandilands said.
"He's a year older than me. Someone of his ability and the way he leads the group, it's really important to have blokes like that around the footy club and I was stoked when he went around again."
Sandilands did not wish to comment on Fremantle's captaincy situation. The Freo Dockers' playing group will hold a vote in the coming weeks on the leadership group and the skipper for 2016.
Fremantle coach Ross Lyon said prior to Christmas that a change of captaincy was possible given the need to manage Pavlich's workload.
He flagged David Mundy and Nat Fyfe as possible successors.
Sandilands, Lee Spurr and the recently retired Luke McPharlin were the other three members of the Freo Dockers' leadership group last year.
