Fremantle has fallen to a 100-point loss to a dominant Adelaide in wet conditions on Saturday night at Adelaide Oval.
Freo youngsters Lachie Weller and Connor Blakely were the shining lights on an otherwise forgettable evening with Weller racking up 30 disposals and 2 goals and Blakely performing well in the contest with 28 touches and 8 tackles.
Blakely’s total of 12 clearances bettered the 21-year-old’s career best of seven against Brisbane in round 12, 2016.
The top of the table Crows scored heavily early despite the deluge of rain, with 14 scoring shots to one to open up a 33-point lead at quarter time.
Adelaide extended their lead to 59 points at half time with the Crows dominating the inside 50s 47-10 and clearances 25-13 in the opening half.
The story remained the same at the resumption after the main break, with Eddie Betts kicking two early third quarter goals before Fremantle could record a possession.
Nat Fyfe provided a rare Fremantle highlight in the third. Blakely did well to set Fyfe free after wrestling the ball from the stoppage and the Freo captain roosted the ball home from the centre square.
Darcy Tucker did his best to try and reduce the margin with two final term goals but the Crows extended the margin to 100 points with a further four goals in the fourth.
The loss sees Fremantle’s season record drop to six wins and four losses, with Freo having eight days to prepare for Collingwood next Sunday at Domain Stadium.
