While Freo’s Luke Ryan didn’t take out Friday’s NAB AFL Rising Star count, the round 20 nominee has a number of Freo teammates who remain eligible for the award in 2017.
To be eligible for a nomination, a player needs to be aged younger than 21 on 1 January 2018 and have played 10 or fewer games at AFL level.
From Freo’s seven debutants in 2017, this includes 19-year-olds Brennan Cox (10 games) and Sean Darcy (eight games) as well as 20-year-old Harley Balic (four games).
Because he played 13 games in 2017, 19-year-old Griffin Logue will not be eligible, while a number of Fremantle players with 10 or less games are ineligible due to their age, including Ryan Nyhuis, Josh Deluca and Michael Apeness.
19-year-old rookies Taylin Duman and Luke Strnadica would also be eligible for a rising star nomination if they make their AFL debuts in 2018.
