It’s the biggest LED lighting system of its kind in the world.
On Wednesday night, the 15,000 LED lights that make up the new Perth Stadium’s lighting system were tested for the first time.
Fremantle will play their home games at the ground from 2018 and the lighting system is only going to add to the fan experience, according to Richard Mulcahy from Lighting Council Australia.
“It’s very high tech what they have put into the facility,” Mulcahy said on Thursday night’s Channel 9 news.
“To put in 15,000 LED lights and with control systems, these are at the cutting edge of new technology.”
Not only does the lighting system allow Fremantle to add it’s own purple flair to the ground, it also provides better visibility during the game, compared to traditional flood lighting used at grounds like Domain Stadium.
“(With flood lighting) you don’t have the definition in identifying the players as well, seeing their movements,” Mulcahy said.
“With this sort of lighting, fans will be able to see a lot more clearly.”
