Fremantle utilities Tommy Sheridan and Brady Grey have both agreed to terms for new contracts through to the end of the 2018 season.
The 23-year-old Sheridan played nine games for Fremantle and 10 games for Peel in 2017, including the Thunder’s 2017 WAFL Grand Final victory over Subiaco.
Grey started the season with just three AFL games under his belt and significantly added to his experience with 14 games in 2017.
Injuries hampered both players’ seasons with Sheridan suffering a hamstring injury against North Melbourne in round 16 and Grey spending several stints on the sidelines with a shoulder injury.
Sheridan said he’s looking forward to seeing what Fremantle can produce in 2018.
“It’s fantastic to sign on, it’s going to be an exciting year next year,” Sheridan said.
“At times in 2017, we showed everyone what we’re capable of. Hopefully, some consistency next year means we can push for some team success.”
For Sheridan, a strong pre-season will be crucial as he looks to cement a spot in the Fremantle side.
“I’ll make sure I come back in good nick and train hard and continue to build the body,” Sheridan said.
“For me, my year was a bit inconsistent with injuries but I’ll be training as hard as I can over the pre-season to try and earn a round one spot.”
Grey, who successfully recovered from surgery on his right shoulder ahead of the 2016 season, hopes he can bounce back in a similar way after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder.
“It’s been a good journey so far and I look forward to continuing it,” Grey said.
“It was really nice to play 14 games this season. Obviously I’d like to build on that next season and have an injury free run.
“I’m really happy to have played those 14 games and play in eight wins - it was great to be a part of a winning side and, hopefully, we can continue that next season.”
General manager of list management Brad Lloyd was pleased see the young duo sign on as Fremantle builds for the future.
“We look forward to seeing Brady and Tommy playing in more important roles with our playing list and contributing to the senior team in the coming years,” Lloyd said.
“Tommy had the opportunity from a young age to experience finals football for the club. We’re really pleased to see him sign on and he'll continue to develop as a player and play a role for our team.
“We’re also pleased with Brady’s extension. He’s really impressed us with his work ethic and his attack on the football. He’s developed consistently each year since arriving at the club.
"It's good that Brady’s been able to play some senior football in recent years and we look forward to seeing him build on that senior experience.”
