Fremantle’s AFL Women’s had a successful first hit out against the Women's WA Talent Academy winning 11.1(67) to 0.1(1) at Victor George Kailis Oval at Cockburn on Saturday morning.

Freo played an aggressive first quarter kicking two goals into the wind to secure an early lead.

Defender Cassie Davidson was an important cog down back and was fierce with her attack on the ball.

The second quarter saw Freo further establish their lead converting four majors, two within the opening minute, keeping the pressure on WA’s defence.

Davidson said the second term was when the team locked in to their game style to continue their six-goal lead.

“We really wanted to play our brand of footy; which is very composed and aggressive,” Davidson said.

“We wanted to be an aggressive team and that really starts and sets the tone in the back line.”

Kellie Gibson has continued her strong start at Freo kicking three goals, with a clever snap just inside 50 in the second quarter.

Freo’s Jodie White and Alicia Janz fought hard in the ruck against WA giving Freo's midfielders first use around the ground.

Davidson praised Ashley Sharp’s game as she was lively up forward scoring three goals.

“She was very important,” Davidson said.

"She had a job to do when she was coming out here, which is to give us lots of run and lots of carry."

Fremantle over ran the State Academy in the end with Lisa Webb scoring two of Freo’s four goals in the final quarter. 

Davidson commended the girls for playing as a team.

“It’s our first official hit out, so there is a lot to work on but the girls did a great job,” Davidson said.

“In the end we played as a unit.”
