WAFL Watch: Round 12 - Defenders and forwards
See how Freo's players fared on the weekend in the WAFL
It was a solid performance from Alex playing as the deepest defender for most of the day, keeping his opponent goaless. When the game was to be won, he looked to give off and showed some run and bounce to try and win the game. Overall he used the ball well.
Kepler Bradley 18 disposals (11 kicks, 7 handballs) 6 marks
Kepler played in defence for the game, where he fought hard throughout with some quick clean hands and was composed in congestion. He worked hard to stop the ball coming out of Peel’s forward 50. He also had some strong tackles and fought hard all day.
Scott Gumbelton 9 disposals (7 kicks, 2 handballs) 1 goal
It was Scott’s first game for the season and he started in a positive fashion, marking strongly in the first contest he attempted. He worked hard both ways, providing a strong marking option in the forward half with seven marks. His run throughout the game was positive on restricted game time. He showed a good change of speed and agility to compete in the air and on the ground. It was a positive game for Scott.

Michael worked hard as a tall forward particularly with his release run back into the forward 50. He took eight marks, two of those being contested, resulting in five shots on goal. Whilst he didn’t maximise his opportunities, he showed some positive run both ways and had an impact in the air.
Matt Taberner 20 disposals (15 kicks, 5 handballs) 7 marks, 1 goal
It was a solid game from Matt, displaying high work rate and strong leading patterns. He constantly presented, giving good representation as the hit up target and as an outlet coming out of defence. He took seven marks and had 21 possessions.

Michael played as a forward and inside mid throughout the game. He showed some improvements with his effort and hardness with a couple of positive ground level contests. He worked hard with his transition run to help get back and support the defence.
