Speedy Fremantle midfielder Stefan Giro hopes he can continue learning from the likes of Ed Langdon after enjoying a testing afternoon playing on his Freo teammate at Friday’s intraclub practice game.
The battle between the pair was one of the highlights of the clash on a warm afternoon at Victor George Kailis Oval.
“It’s really good to get our footy underway and it was a good game,” Giro said.
“It was a good test, playing against Ed most of the time, he’s been really helpful for me in my development.
“He was running those patterns and pushing my match fitness which was good.”
Giro, 20, said he’s really benefited from the guidance of the 23-year-old Langdon.
“He’s helped me a lot this past year,” Giro said.
“He helps with my running patterns and everything else, including going through vision, so he does a lot for me.”
Giro said he enjoyed good service throughout the game from fellow young midfielder Tom North, who worked hard on the inside for team ‘white’.
North held his own in the engine room going up against seasoned AFL players including David Mundy and Michael Walters.
Giro tipped the 20-year-old to make his debut in 2019.
“Tom really impressed me, he was really good inside and with his hands and I felt he played really well,” Giro said.
“It’s a good sign, he’s definitely stepped up from last year and had a really good pre-season.
"He’s looking to break into the side and, hopefully, he does, he’s playing well.”
