- AFLW: Cooper post-match Q & A - Rd 3 v Collingwood
Fremantle forward Gemma Houghton believes Freo’s 33-point win on home soil against Collingwood was a collective effort from all the girls on the field.
Houghton played a solid game, with 10 disposals and 8 tackles, helping set up a succession of impressive goals.
“Individually I just make sure I put the girls in the right position but collectively as a group we didn’t hang our heads and our game approach was just always attacking hard,” she said.
The Dockers gave Collingwood little room to move around the ball, which kept them goal-less for the first half.
Houghton says this tactic has been working for the team across the field.
“It’s always one of our focuses, just making sure that we pressure hard and through that the rest will come,” she said.
The efforts from Fremantle’s forward line places the team as the top scoring side in the competition, leading by four goals.
Houghton spoke highly of the performance from Katie-Jayne Grieves, but said it’s a group effort which has been securing the wins for the club.
“It’s great to see players like Katie coming through and kicking those goals and everyone getting around that,”
“There aren’t any passengers, as a group we are always running hard,” she said.
Fremantle will now face Adelaide at TIO stadium in Darwin, Saturday February 23 at 6:35pm WST.
