What were you most pleased about with that performance?
It was a few things, but probably our two quarters into the breeze, I thought we really were good defensively. I thought our backs had their best game so far today, no doubt, into the breeze in particular. I thought we controlled the ball and our forwards did a good job keeping it in there. So, the two quarters into the breeze were very pleasing.
There’s been a lot of talk about how high scoring you are but to actually keep a team to a low score, is that something you’ve worked on over the last couple of weeks?
Yes, our backs have been improving all the time, they’re a fairly inexperienced group and we’ve obviously taken Ebony Antonio out of that group. We’re also exposing them to a lot of one-on-one’s because we’re not having players behind the ball so they’re going to get scored against because of that. They’ve been working really well and today they were just a bit more aggressive in actually winning the ball, and that got the ball out quicker. We’ve been really happy with the work that Lisa Webb’s been doing with our backline as they keep improving.
It’s a seven game competition and you are three and zero, it must be a pretty good feeling?
Absolutely. To make finals, five and two might not even be enough, so we have to keep ticking those boxes and winning those games so every game’s important. You can’t take the foot off at any stage.
Where do you think you are in terms of the very best teams? Do you feel like you’re a real genuine contender?
It’s hard to say, we haven’t played North Melbourne, Western Bulldogs, Adelaide, who I rate really highly so we’ve got them to come in three of the next four games. We’re just happy playing each week and testing ourselves against the best and we’ll see where that is. We think our best footy is pretty good, pretty exciting, and hopefully hard to stop. We just have to see when we do come up against those sides.
Do you think you have the hardest part of the draw still to come?
Yes, I think Melbourne are a really good side and Brisbane are always hard to beat, it’s the nature of the competition this year for us that (in) our draw we’ve got a lot of tough games. We’ll respect each opponent and take them on one by one.
What do you make of the conference issue? Obviously looks like your conference is a fair bit stronger?
It does, it’s just the way the cookie crumbles. To win it you have to beat everybody, last year you had to finish top two to even make the grand final, this year you’ve got to finish top two to make the conference final, so it is what it is. It’s on our radar to finish in the top two so we’ll be doing whatever we can to get there.
Would you have preferred that they stick to a straight ladder and took the top four? Would that have been fairer?
I think the conference has got a fair bit of merit in a way. The idea behind it this year, obviously the teams are a bit stronger on one side but I think it’s got some merit so I’m not too worried about that at all.
As long as you don’t finish third?
Well, if we finish third then the other two teams above us deserve to be there and that’ll be the way it is, so that’s just the way it’ll happen.
Only downside today was Brianna Moyes, any update on her knee?
It’s a knee injury. I got told early on and that was it. As usual, I don’t have any more information than that. They’ll go for scans Monday, so I’ll probably find out then and we’ll let our fans and the media know straight after that. She was in good spirits, she was in the centre for the huddle after the game which is great to see. It’s disappointing for her, she’s come across from a different sport and worked really hard to get a chance out there today. To be injured in the first quarter it’s disappointing but she still got to be a part of a win and hopefully the news is good on Monday.
Have they at least been able to rule out an ACL?
I don’t think you can rule that out. It’s all in the scans, I’m not involved in the medical but we’ll have the scans and work things out from there.
