Fremantle’s man of the moment David Mundy feels he can see the team building something special after they recorded their fourth win of the season on Saturday night.
Freo defeated the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in Mundy’s milestone 300th game in what was also commemorated as the Len All Anzac Tribute Game.
The club sits second on the ladder ahead of six other clubs on 16 points thanks to their superior percentage of 128.1.
The Bulldogs pushed Freo all the way and Mundy was pleased to see his teammates prevail in the clash.
“It was a great contest I thought, the Western Bulldogs never went away. We were probably a little bit lucky at times but the boys fought it out and that’s becoming our signature to be honest,” Mundy told Channel 7 post-game.
“We’ve done the hard yards in the past couple of years and bled some young guys so they can understand our game plan.
“I feel like we’ve got a really good system now and the guys coming in understand what they need to do to play their role really well. It’s a really good thing that we’re building and there’s a good feel around the club.”
Mundy was one of Fremantle’s best on the night with 28 disposals, 11 contested possessions, seven tackles, six clearances and two goals as one of Freo’s best on the day.
His two-goal third quarter performance lifted the team. After a crunching contest against Mitch Wallis to help Freo win the ball, Mundy kicked two of Freo’s three consecutive goals.
One goal came on the run just inside the 50 and the other was a set shot from 55m that sent the crowd into a frenzy.
Mundy said he’s enjoyed the whole experience around his 300th game
“It’s been an emotional week to be honest,” Mundy said.
“I have never experienced the individual focus that I’ve felt this week.
“The love and admiration from the whole Fremantle faithful and the guys at our club has been overwhelming. I’m glad I got through it and did my bit.
“(Reaching 300 games) is hard to believe to be honest, I sit back and the way I feel, I feel like I’m going ok. Reaching 300 games, I can look back on it one day and the 16 years has gone by like that.”
