Fremantle forward Jesse Hogan said he feels capable of playing his best football after building from an interrupted 2019 pre-season due to a foot injury.
The former Demon played arguably his best game for Fremantle in round 13 against Port Adelaide, kicking three goals, taking 11 marks and covering 15.3km – more than any other player.
No Fremantle player spends more time on ground than Hogan in games, with the 24-year-old leading the team with a 91.3 time on ground percentage.
The talented forward told Seven News that he feels more able to put in a four-quarter effort.
“Probably for the first four or five games, I was really blowing come towards the end, I was kind of just trudging around and battling to get through the four quarters,” Hogan told Seven News.
“Now I’ve kind of got a bit more of a base behind me, I feel as though I’m running out games a bit better and having more of an impact.”
Hogan said he had always admired forwards who covered plenty of ground in games.
“It’s something I’ve always mark my game off. As a young kid I liked to watch Nick Riewoldt and ‘Pav’ (Matthew Pavlich) and these players who can run out a quarter without a break,” Hogan said.
“I wouldn’t compare my speed stats to Bradley Hill and Ed Langdon, the wingers, but it’s something that if I’m working hard, I’m usually getting more marks and getting more involved.”
Hogan faces his former teammates for the first time this Saturday at the MCG and he said he was looking forward to the experience.
“I’ll message all the boys and I think I’m probably going to get booed and all the rest of it, but that’s a part of footy. I’m really looking forward to it,” Hogan said.
