Senior coach Ross Lyon will not expect the form guide to have any influence in Fremantle’s upcoming away trip to face Melbourne at the MCG on Saturday.
Freo are on a three-game winning streak and will take on a Melbourne team that have lost four straight.
All four of the Demons consecutive losses have come against a team that currently sit in the top five on the ladder, and Lyon highlighted that the Demons only need to kick straighter to turn their slump around.
Up against West Coast, GWS, Adelaide and Collingwood in the past four weeks, Melbourne kicked 38.54 and totalled 92 scoring shots to 87 against.
“We’re really looking forward to the game against Melbourne, it’s a big challenge,” Lyon said.
“Barring some accuracy, they would have won a number of games over the past month, especially up in Darwin (against Adelaide) and against the Eagles, they really challenged over here.
“They’ve got (defenders) Steven May and Jake Lever back, so they’re more solid behind the ball. They’re a strong contested ball team and have a strong attack. They’re passing the ball well into their forward line so it’s going to be a big challenge for us.”
Lyon said that the group has the belief that they can deliver on an away trips after beating Collingwood and GWS on the road this year.
“We’ve got a lot of belief in ourselves but we know Melbourne have been going to the end, they’ve been fierce and they’ll see us as a scalp as we’ve won the past few in a row,” Lyon said.
“We play at the MCG, the home of football, the last time we were there(against Collingwood) we played well but it doesn’t count for anything, but it does instil a belief that we can get over there and get it done.
“It’s a day off today, the players come in tomorrow, they’ll focus on preparation, we’ve been training well, we’ve been consistently preparing well mentally and physically.”
