Michael Barlow will play in the Carlton Draught Derby after Fremantle finalised its 22 for Sunday’s match.

Hayden Ballantyne has also been named, while Tom Sheridan and Stephen Hill come out from the team that lost to North Melbourne last week.

Sheridan will be an emergency along with Jack Hannath and Alex Silvagni.

Barlow has not played since round 2 because of a knee injury, but general manager of football operations Chris Bond said the midfielder got through training on Friday and would line up.

“It doesn’t surprise us, the way he goes about his football is exceptional and his rehab has been first rate,” Bond said.

“He’s been able to have a fair few sessions on the track and been able to get through full training.

“We know that he’ll be fully ready to go.”

Barlow has won three Ross Glendinning Medals for best afield in the Derby from six matches against the Eagles.

Bond said Fremantle was just glad to have an important component of the team back.

“At the end of the day, our main focus is on winning the game,” he said.

“It’s going to be a really tough, competitive game and he’s going to play an important part in that, but so is every other player.”

Ballantyne returns after a one-week suspension. Bond said Freo knew what it was going to get from the forward.

“We’ve all seen the way he plays, when he’s playing his best footy he’s really chasing and harassing and certainly giving an option as a forward line player,” he said.

“Just his energy out on the ground and the way he goes about it, he gives us a chance to win every time just by his effort, and I’m sure he’ll bring that on Sunday.”

Hill had to be withdrawn from the squad on Friday after sustaining a hamstring injury.

“He’s just had a minor strain of the hamstring,” Bond said.

“We’re expecting, hopefully that he’ll be right for the following game.

“It was too much of a risk on Sunday and we had to change the squad and brought Matt de Boer back into the squad.

“From our end, he’s too important a player to risk, but we’d all like to see him out there.”

The 39th Derby will be ruck champion Aaron Sandilands’ 200th game. Bond praised the three-time All Australian ahead of his milestone.

“He gives 100 per cent effort all the time,” he said.

“He’s a really important player for us.

“We’d love to get the result for a lot of reasons, but if we can get it on a milestone game for Aaron, it’d be terrific.”
