Fremantle’s second pick in Wednesday morning’s rookie draft, Thomas Vandeleur doesn’t want to waste any time.

After being picked up at pick 32, Vandeleur called his dad, Drew who quickly reminded him that the work begins now.

“I was over the moon when I found out,” Vandeleur said.

“It’s a bit of a surreal feeling, but I’m stoked and super excited.

“The first person I called was my dad.

“He reminded me that getting picked up is just one step, now there’s the next step of getting my name on the senior list and then getting a game.”

The 194cm tall defender, had an interrupted season with WAFL club South Fremantle.

He started the year debuting in the league side before an ankle injured forced him out of the side for several weeks.

He returned in time to play in South Fremantle’s colts six-point grand final loss to Claremont.

Vandeleur describes himself as an athletic player that ‘has a bit of speed’.

“My focus for this year is just to work as hard as I can and hope to be promoted onto the senior list so I can get an opportunity at playing,” he said.

“I’m just happy to be given the chance.”
