Fremantle has confirmed that midfielder Hayden Young re-injured his hamstring at training on Saturday.

Scans have revealed a low-grade hamstring strain that will rule the 23-year-old out of Sunday’s AAMI Community Series game against Melbourne and the Round 1 clash with Geelong at GMHBA Stadium.

Young initially suffered a low-grade hamstring injury at the beginning of the month.

“Scans have revealed a minor re-strain of his previous injury, unfortunately this will rule Hayden out of Round 1,” said Executive General Manager of Football Joe Brierty.

“At this point in time, we are still finalising timelines and we will be able to see how he progresses over the next fortnight. We expect to see Hayden returning in the early rounds of the season.”

Young defender Josh Draper will miss the Melbourne clash after scans revealed a low-grade hamstring strain. Draper will be a test for Round 1.

Captain Alex Pearce is a test to play against Melbourne while he recovers from an ankle injury that kept sidelined from the Indigenous All Stars match.
