In another close contest, Fremantle and St Kilda were within five points of each other in the final minutes of the match at RSEA Park, as Gabby Biedenweg-Webster secured the win for her side with the final goal for the match.

Senior Coach Lisa Webb spoke to media post-match and was pleased with her side’s win, despite the challenges they faced.

“Always nice to get one on the road, another (game) in four days so we’ll certainly bank that,” Webb said.

“Sometimes it was challenging navigating a few things that happened during the game, but once again, just really happy to grind it out.”

It was a massive ‘welcome back’ into the side for young gun Tunisha Kikoak, who returned from a shoulder injury and booted her first two AFLW goals.

“(Tunisha’s) a young kid as well – she’s 19 and I thought she did a really good job. She came off a shoulder injury (from) a couple of weeks ago,” Webb said.

“For her to kick a couple of really important goals, I thought she was really well supported down there by Ari and Epps as well.”

Webb praised the backline, with special mentions to Emma O’Driscoll who played her 50th AFLW game and former Pie, Ash Brazill.

“(It is) really pleasing for the team. I thought our backs set it up really well, they were really strong,” Brazill said.

“O’Driscoll shone in her milestone game, but (she was) really well supported down there by all of the backs – I thought they were really dominant.

“(Braz is) incredible. She said to me a few weeks ago, ‘you set me a task and I’ll be fiercely determined to get it done,’ and once again she’s shown she can do that.

“She’s got great athleticism, great poise. Any challenge I put to her, she just gets it done and I thought she was really significant today.”

Webb touched on the group’s week away in Melbourne with two back-to-back games within four days of each other.

“We’ve got a great team around us, and we’re lucky to be on the road for a week,” Webb said.

“It's been great. We’re loving where we are, but now we’ve got to anchor back to play again in four days, which is exciting.

“We’re an ‘all in’ team and it’s really family (orientated) and built around that, so I’m proud of the girls.”

Webb was pleased with the team’s efforts to continue to build and work together, as they navigate through injuries.

“Playing together, it’s starting to build,” Webb said.

“Having Aish Mac and Gabby Newton come through the midfield, it’s not easy at times in terms of moving personnel around.

“We’ve had a few injuries like every team does, so we’re just trying to gel and find the right mix, and that will be forever going through this season and continuing forward.

“We’ve shown we’re a tough side, we can grind out wins like we did.”

Fremantle will have a four day break before taking on Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on Tuesday 1 October at 5.15pm WST.
