Fremantle ruck Mim Strom has credited her new ruck coach and brother for her impressive start to the 2024 AFLW season.

At the conclusion of Fremantle’s 11-point win over St Kilda, Strom once again dominated stoppages, giving her midfield unit the first look while also providing a constant presence around the ground, highlighted by her multiple intercept marks.

“It was a really tough fight, but I think we had that belief from last week and we just ground it through, so it was a pretty good win,” Strom said post-game.

“I’ve been working on my fitness and my ruck work.

“I’ve got a new ruck coach in Zac (Strom), which is awesome. Working with my brother is really great. He brings that undersized ruck value, and I’m learning a lot from him.”

The work has paid off so far for Strom in 2024. Currently, the 22-year-old ruck sits equal second in the competition for total hitouts (153), averaging 30.6 per game, and is just one hitout behind first place.

Not only a force in the ruck contest, Strom has also elevated her around the ground game to average 15.6 disposals, 5.8 tackles, 3.6 marks, and 3.6 clearances per game throughout the first five weeks of the AFLW season.

Fremantle’s crucial win over St Kilda sees the Club remain in sixth position on the ladder and undefeated on the road in 2024.

The Club now faces a rapid turnaround, playing Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on Tuesday before returning home to Western Australia.

“We always have our eyes on the prize,” Strom said.

“We’re here for the four points in Geelong, but it will be nice to have a reset tomorrow, watch a bit of footy (the 2024 Toyota AFL Grand Final), and then we go again on Tuesday.”
