Fremantle forward Josh Corbett has called time on his AFL career.
Corbett played a total of 41 AFL games, including five for Fremantle in 2023, where he kicked three goals and took 20 marks.
A significant hip injury that required a full hip replacement sidelined the 28-year-old for the entire 2024 season.
Corbett also played 15 games for Peel Thunder in 2023, kicking 20 goals during the Club’s run to the WAFL grand final.
Although Corbett missed the entire 2024 season, he played an instrumental role during his time at Freo by helping to develop the AFLW team through his position as a specialist coach and supporting a number of his teammates through their reconditioning programs across the AFL season.
Before joining Fremantle, Corbett made his AFL debut for Gold Coast against Brisbane in 2019, kicking two goals in his first-ever senior AFL game.
Reflecting on his AFL career Corbett thanked both Fremantle and Gold Coast for letting him live out his AFL dream.
“I’m so grateful to have been part of the Fremantle Football Club,” Corbett said.
“My wife, my family, and I have felt so welcome, and although we’ve only been here a couple of years, it feels like we’ve been here forever.
“I’m so grateful that I was able to go to work every day and be my 100 percent self.
“It’s frustrating from my body’s perspective that I haven’t been able to get out there and play as much as I would have hoped to. However, being involved in the professional environment and developing relationships that I’ll hold for life is something I’ll cherish.
“It’s also important to me that I acknowledge Gold Coast for giving me my start in the AFL back in 2018."
Fremantle's Executive General Manager of Football Joe Brierty thanked Corbett for his ongoing commitment to Fremantle.
"Although Josh’s time at the Club has been significantly hampered by injury, there is no doubt he gave everything he could to the Football Club.” Brierty said.
"The rehab group can be a lonely place, but there is no one else you would want alongside you during reconditioning than Josh, with his dedication and beaming smile.
“His commitment to our community and AFLW programs outside of his own injury rehabilitation highlights Josh’s investment in Fremantle.
“He leaves the playing group as the 2023 Best Clubman Award winner and we can’t thank Josh enough for everything he has done for our Club."
