Fremantle High-Performance Manager Phil Merriman has confirmed Josh Treacy will be unavailable for the Club’s clash with Port Adelaide.
Speaking on SEN WA on Tuesday morning, EGM of Football Joe Brierty said Treacy would not be available, with Merriman confirming the 22-year-old’s knee was ‘progressing well’ but would not be ready for Round 24.
“The knee has been a little bit unpredictable in that he’s still in an acute phase of healing, and it’s just carrying a bit of an effusion (swelling), which is what is holding him back,” Merriman said.
“Everything else checks out really well, so the plan will be, if we are able to continue our season into the finals, to have him available for week one.”
Merriman confirmed captain Alex Pearce is facing a similar timeline.
“(Pearce is) tracking again as planned. He will be unavailable this week, but the plan is for him to be available for week one of finals if we’re lucky enough to keep going,” Merriman said.
In positive news, ruckman Sean Darcy completed some running in today’s training session and will likely be available for selection if he can complete Thursday’s main training.
“Sean (Darcy) had a jog today and felt pretty good,” Merriman said.
“He will go into main training on Thursday to put his name up for availability.”
Michael Walters will also be available for selection after successfully returning to the WAFL from his hamstring injury.
“You wouldn’t have known he (Walters) was playing in the wet because his run numbers were through the roof,” Merriman said.
“It’s great and exciting to see Sonny back in action.”
Oscar McDonald (knee) and Ollie Murphy (abdomen) both made their successful returns to football for Peel Thunder at the weekend after significant stints on the sidelines with injury.
“He (McDonald) didn’t bring his snorkel, but he got through the game really well,” Merriman said.
“Ollie Murphy, at the same time, played reserves and again got through the game well.”
