Fremantle High Performance Manager Phil Merriman says young midfielder Matthew Johnson will be available for selection following a successful run in the WAFL at the weekend.
Johnson featured for 60 minutes in Peel’s 35-point win over Claremont, gathering 24 disposals, five tackles and four inside 50s in the clash.
“His foot is going well,” Merriman said.
“He got through well, and the plan is to up that load and hopefully we might see him in the AFL if he’s selected (later in the week).”
Meanwhile, Merriman confirmed Club captain Alex Pearce (forearm) and veteran forward Michael Walters (hamstring) are recovering well from their injuries.
“It’s going really well (Walters’ hamstring),” Merriman said.
“He’s been getting through a whole heap of work and he’s certainly going to be coming back nice and fit.
“He (Walters) will be one week away.
“(Pearce) is tracking well. He’s begun his mobility work and is going to get into his run work early next week.
“All things are looking good.”
Additionally, the long-term injuries to Oscar McDonald (knee) and Ollie Murphy (abdomen) draw closer to an end with Merriman confirming the pair are close to returning to football.
“They are very close (McDonald and Murphy),” Merriman said.
“They will complete their final session in the reconditioning program this weekend, with their availability for hopefully next week.”
