Nat Fyfe’s one-match suspension has been upheld by the AFL Tribunal in a hearing on Tuesday evening.
The dual Brownlow Medallist will miss the Club’s round 21 fixture against Essendon at the MCG on Sunday.
The midfielder was charged by the AFL’s Match Review Officer for striking West Coast’s Jai Culley during the second quarter of Saturday’s RAC Derby.
The MRO had graded the incident as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact.
Fremantle’s basis for the challenge primarily focused on arguing that Fyfe’s actions didn’t constitute a strike and therefore was not a reportable offence.

Secondary to that argument, Seamus Rafferty SC, submitted to the Tribunal that if deemed a strike under the guidelines, the report did not constitute an intentional act and should have been considered as careless, resulting in the downgrading of the charge to a fine.
Fremantle Executive General Manager of football Joe Brierty acknowledged the AFL Tribunal’s decision, but expressed the Club’s disappointment in the outcome.
“We respect the Tribunal’s decision, however, we are disappointed that Nat will be unavailable for this weekend’s fixture against Essendon,” said Brierty.
“We will now take time to review this decision. Meanwhile, Nat will now do everything to assist his teammates in their preparation for this weekend and be available to return against Geelong.
“The Club would like to acknowledge the services of Seamus Rafferty SC and thank him for his efforts at tonight’s hearing.”
Fyfe will be available for selection for the Club’s round 22 Retro Round clash with Geelong at Optus Stadium.
