Fremantle High Performance Manager Phil Merriman says Club captain Alex Pearce’s timeline to return will be determined in the next week following consultation with specialists later today.

The 29-year-old was substituted out of the game following an incident during the third quarter against Melbourne at the weekend. Fremantle’s EGM of Football Joe Brierty, earlier today confirmed that the incident resulted in a new fracture to the radius bone of Pearce’s left forearm.

Pearce previously was sidelined for four weeks after fracturing the same bone against Gold Coast in round 15.

“Moose is in today and is in good spirits,” Merriman said.

“He obviously copped a whack on that forearm on the radius bone which he has a new fracture in.

“It’s really unfortunate for Moose and we will be seeing a specialist later this afternoon to determine the procedure and the timeframes available.

“We will have more information on timeframes in the next week.”

Young midfielder Matthew Johnson who missed the weekend’s clash has also been ruled out of RAC Derby 59 with a foot injury, with Merriman confirming the Club plans to have the 21-year-old available for the round 21 clash against Essendon.

“We picked up after training last week that he had a little stress reaction in his foot,” Merriman said.

“We’ve caught this early thankfully and at this stage we will go through some tests early next week and hopefully have him available the following week.”

In positive news, young midfielder Neil Erasmus has progressed well through his concussion protocols and is expected to be a test to play later in the week.

“(He) is likely to be available,” Merriman confirmed.

“He’s been pretty smooth sailing through the protocols so he will be a test to play.”

Meanwhile speedy defender Corey Wagner has been cleared of any injury following the heavy collision he endured early in the second quarter with Melbourne’s Kade Chandler.

“Wags is good, he loves the physicality,” Merriman said.

“He was seen on the bench having a laugh about it not long after so he’s good to go (this week).”

Key defender Oscar McDonald is edging closer to making a return to football following the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury he sustained in round one after landing awkwardly.

“He’s progressing through his reconditioning really well,” Merriman said.

“We are hoping to see him before the end of the home and away season.”
