Will Brodie, Neil Erasmus and Sam Sturt all starred in a ruthless display for Peel Thunder at Rushton Park in Mandurah on Saturday afternoon.

Ten Fremantle-listed players were in action for the round six clash as Peel cruised to their biggest win in Club history to claim top spot on the WAFL ladder.

The Thunder overcame West Perth by 113 points top finish with a 25.14 (164) to 7.9 (51) result.

Peel found plenty of space early and used their outside run for deep inside 50 entries, much to the delight of Sturt (four goals, 19 disposals) who kicked two goals in as many minutes to open the scoring.

Brodie (34 disposals, five tackles) showcased his speed and explosiveness from centre-bounce and almost made it three quick Thunder goals, narrowly missing to the left.

Liam Reidy (43 hitouts, 14 disposals) asserted his physical presence from the outset, expertly tapping a forward-50 stoppage into the path of Sturt who nailed his third.

Corey Wagner (24 disposals, five marks) arrived with energy and work-rate on the outside and was an unlucky bounce away from a long-range goal.

Erasmus (34 disposals, one goal) looked to continue his fine WAFL form, and his centre-bounce link-up with Reidy and Brodie proved overwhelming for the typically strong Falcons’ midfield.

Jack Delean (three goals, nine disposals) found himself on the end of another deep forward-50 entry, and his miracle snap from the pocket made it six consecutive Peel goals.

A late West Perth steadier reduced the margin to 33-points at the first break.

The visitors had a brighter start to the second term and enjoyed some forward-half territory, however, failed to convert on the scoreboard.

The Falcons were made to pay on the rebound as goals to Scott Tuia and Corey Tragenza extended Peel’s lead.

Sturt again showed his attack on the ball and aerial ability as he clunked a contested mark, converting the set shot to take his tally to four.

Erasmus showed his two-way running ability in an impressive minute, floating into defensive-50 to take an intercept mark, before getting on the end of the subsequent rebound chain and was inches away from finding Sturt with one of his nine inside-50s for the day.

Peel went into the main break with an all but insurmountable 55-point lead.

Former Fremantle players Nathan Wilson and Brady Grey extended the margin further with early goals in the third quarter.

West Perth enjoyed a mini spell on top, but Peel’s defensive structure and rebound continued to prove too strong through the work of Fremantle defenders Hugh Davies, Ollie Murphy, and Ethan Hughes.

After absorbing the pressure, Peel unleashed to pile on five straight goals in 15 minutes to push the margin towards triple-figures.

Fremantle draftee Delean thrilled the Mandurah crowd with another display of forward craft as his left foot snap helped Peel to an 88-point three-quarter-time lead.

The Thunder continued where they left off in the final term as Blair Bell kicked an early goal from point-blank range.

The visitors responded with consecutive goals for the first time all day, but order was restored as Delean’s running goal took his tally for the day to three.

Erasmus polished off an impressive day out with his first goal of the day to take the margin beyond triple-figures before Delean’s pressure forced a free kick in the middle of the ground to set up another major.

The lead peaked at 120 points before a Falcons consolation goal concluded the afternoon.

The final margin of 113 points is the biggest-ever win by Peel, and takes the Thunder to the top of the WAFL ladder at the end of round 6.

Speaking post-match, Reidy was thrilled with the team's performance.

“We went in with a plan and I feel like we executed it pretty well,” Reidy said.

The 23-year-old ruckman praised fellow Freo teammates Erasmus, Brodie and Sturt for their performances.

“To work with those blokes all pre-season and play out here with them is pretty special,” he said.

“(Sturt) works hard every day and reaps the rewards.”

Reidy was also satisfied with his own physicality across the ground.

“I try to bring that every single game (his physicality), to impose myself on the contest at ground level and in the air,” he said.

Peel will look to continue their good form when they travel to Bassendean to play Swan Districts on Saturday 11 May.
