Sean Darcy’s imminent return to the field has injected fresh energy into Fremantle’s camp ahead of RAC Derby 58 this Saturday.
The towering ruckman’s determination to recover from a knee operation has impressed his teammates, with Caleb Serong noting Darcy’s impatience to get back into action for the Club.
“He’s very keen to get back, he’s pretty impatient which is great,” Serong said to Xavier Ellis and Michelle Anderson on Triple M Wednesday morning.
“He had a great session last Wednesday when we were in Adelaide, it was just a little bit of a conservative decision to keep him out obviously (not selecting him to face Port Adelaide in round 5).
“It’s a long year, we don’t want to rush him because we want him to be healthy for the rest of the season.”
Should Darcy get through Wednesday night's main training session at Optus Stadium and tick all the final boxes ahead of Saturday, the big man will be a handy inclusion ahead of an anticipated hard-fought contest with the Eagles.
“It’s one of those ones where it doesn’t matter where the two teams are on the ladder,” Serong said.
“It’s always a hard-fought game and both teams bring their best.
“We are excited to go against them, their (West Coast’s) whole midfield is going really well at the moment so it’s going to be a good challenge for us.”
The ledger currently sits at 32 - 25 in favour of West Coast, but Fremantle are on a hot streak with the last five RAC Derbies all going to the Club at an average margin of 47 points.
The rivalry looks to offer yet another spectacle, with Darcy’s return adding an extra layer of anticipation for Freo fans.
“I don’t know if he’d like me saying this, but when he was going into surgery just before the season started when he had his little knee operation, he was researching on the way into the surgery what’s the shortest timeframe to come back.” Serong said.
“He had another good session on Saturday which we were really happy with so I’ve got no doubt if he gets through today, he will be right to go for the weekend.”
