Garrick Ibbotson expects the All Australian pair of Hayden Ballantyne and Michael Johnson to be match fit and ready to fire when they return from injury later this year.

Both Ballantyne (pectoral tendon) and Johnson (hamstring) are not expected to be available for selection until the final games of the year.

The pair would be important inclusions for Fremantle come finals.

Ibbotson said he had faith that both would remain in good condition as they overcome long term injuries.

Who will replace Ballas?

Ballantyne will still be able to run after tearing his pectoral tendon in Saturday night’s win over Carlton.

“I think they’ll both be ok,” Ibbotson said.

“Hayden’s injury is upper body and he’ll be able to do a lot of running, so his fitness shouldn’t be an issue.

“It’s probably going to be hard for him because of the way he plays, he’s a bit of a cannon ball and will need to get his shoulder right and get his strength right.”

Tough decision on Ballas' replacement against Tigers

Ibbotson said Johnson had been running solidly in recent weeks after he tore his hamstring in his 200th game against Richmond in Round 10.

“Johnno has been running for a while, so the fitness will be there,” he said.

“A bit of match simulation will get them up and going.”

Ballantyne has been ruled out for the home and away season while Johnson is expected to return between rounds 18 and 22.

Fremantle play Richmond at the MCG on Saturday 25 July. Bounce down is at 4.35pm local time.
