Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon has indicated that utility Tendai Mzungu may not play against Port Adelaide on Sunday at Domain Stadium in Freo’s AFL season opener.
Talking points ahead of Sunday's game
Mzungu has been recovering from a hamstring injury suffered during the pre-season.
Lyon said the Freo star might be a little underdone to be thrown straight into the team to take on Port.
“Tendai Mzungu, who we would love to have in, and he is ready to go, he has missed just a little too much for us to jump the queue,” Lyon said.
“It is difficult.”
Freo will submit its final TAB 22 line-up Friday afternoon.
View preliminary 25-man squad
“We have to get through (training),” Lyon said.
“We have put the squad into 25, depending on how training goes, even then - we didn't name a ruckman in the emergencies I don't think, but if you were to lose an Aaron (Sandilands) on something you can apply over Saturday or Sunday to have that changed.
“So the 25 is the 25, we haven't finalised it to 22.
“We have a reasonable idea - but we need to - because we have had so many interruptions to a few of our key guys.
“They all trained really well Wednesday, but they need to get through today and then we will come in and assess - then the team goes in today.”
Fremantle takes on Port Adelaide at Domain Stadium on Easter Sunday, 5 April.
