Sam Switkowski says that the Fremantle paying group only have themselves to blame for a four-point loss to Carlton at Optus Stadium on Sunday.
After the small forward gave Freo the lead with just over a minute to play, Carlton’s Marc Murphy put the Blues back in front to seal the win.
Switkowski said that Fremantle would review the final moments of the game closely.
“It was disappointing, although we did fight it out right to the end,” Switkowski told 6PR.
“I don’t think there was any luck in it, we’ll have to look at how we set up in that last boundary throw-in inside 50 and see what we can fix there. Unfortunately, Murphy put that one through.”
Switkowski said that Fremantle need to avoid performances like the second term, where Carlton clawed back the bulk of Freo’s five-goal lead from quarter time.
“I think that second quarter really hurt us, so we’re really chasing a four quarter performance which would have got us across the line,” Switkowski said.
“A lot of it was our ball movement. They were obviously winning it in the middle a lot more. Their ground ball through the middle was up so they were beating us in the contest and they were holding the territory.
“We couldn’t get it out of our back half and we started switching the ball when we probably didn’t need to, we could have gone down the line a bit more and gained a bit more ground.
“We weren’t really getting that ground and it was making it easy for Carlton to set up. We were really quite stuck in that defensive half and couldn’t get anything going.”
