Fremantle have secured midfielder/forward Aisling (Aish) McCarthy in a trade with the West Coast Eagles.
Forward/ruck Roxy Roux has signed with West Coast as part of the trade, and the Eagles receive pick 27 in the second round of the 2023 AFLW Draft.
McCarthy has played 43 AFLW games across six seasons, with the last four at West Coast.
An Irish product and Gaelic football convert, McCarthy was runner-up in West Coast’s Club Champion award in seasons 5 and 7.
McCarthy is known for her speed and strength to move the ball into attack and has shown the ability to excel midfield and forward in recent seasons.
Speed, strength and versatility.

AFLW Football Operations Manager Darryn Fry welcomed McCarthy to Fremantle.
“We’re really excited about bringing Aish into the Club,” Fry said.
“She’s been a player of interest over a period of time and we’ve watched her really closely.
“She’s a powerful player who is very versatile in her role. She’s played inside mid, has the capacity to play forward and kick goals and we believe she will be a real asset to our group.
“Aish is also well connected with our existing Irish players, so we feel coming into the Freo family will be really seamless for her.”
Fry also wished Roux well as she heads to the West Coast Eagles.
“We drafted Roxy in the 2019 AFLW Draft and she’s been part of the Freo family for five seasons now,” Fry said.
“She’s an exciting talent and we thank her for her contribution to Fremantle and wish her all the best with her football journey moving forward.”
The AFLW Trade Period opened on Thursday 7 December and closes Thursday 14 December at 5pm AWST.
