Geelong midfielder James Kelly has told Cats TV his side needs to outrun Fremantle’s defensive pressure and lock the ball up forward if it is to emerge victorious in the qualifying final at Simonds Stadium on Saturday.

Freo ambushed the Cats in last year’s elimination final at the MCG, and Kelly said the Cats had to make the most out of their opportunities this time.

“Fremantle are obviously a really good defensive side and we’ve got to make the most of it when it’s in our forward line,” Kelly said on geelongcats.com.au.

“On the other side of that we’ve got to really restrict them as well, they’ve got some really dangerous forwards. (Matthew) Pavlich is one of them and (Michael) Walters and (Hatden) Ballantyne are dangerous small forwards as well.

“We want to make sure we can contain them as best we can, as well as having really good intensity around the ball.”
