Young gun forward Jye Amiss has earnt the praise of his teammates after a consistent display of his talent throughout the 2023 season.

Amiss booted 41 goals from 22 appearances in 2023 in just his second season at the top level.

Drafted at no.8 in the 2021 National Draft, Amiss became Freo’s leading goalkicker last season and won Fremantle’s Beacon Award, recognising him as the Club’s most promising young player.

Fellow Freo forward Michael Frederick was full of praise for 20-year-old Amiss, touching on his inspiring comeback following a kidney injury in 2022.

“What he’s (Jye) able to do on the field is pretty amazing – to hit 41 goals off of three games the previous year, (having dealt with) a kidney injury,” Frederick said.

“It’s amazing to see, and hopefully he can keep growing from that.”

Frederick also highlighted Amiss’ hard work ethic and his calm, composed nature.

“He (Jye) has got a good head on his shoulders, and he doesn’t get carried away,” Frederick said.

“There was a lot of talk about him throughout the year with how well he’s going, but I know for a fact none of that would’ve gone to his head.

“He’s so reserved, but then he goes out there and he kicks four goals (in a game). Then during the week it’s as if he didn’t play – he doesn’t talk about at all. It’s not a bad trait he’s got, with how reserved and humble he is.”

Teammate in the forward line Josh Treacy spoke on the impressive impact Amiss has had for the team already, and the pair’s connection on the field.

“The ability for someone in their second year to be able to have that sort of impact on not just a game, but the whole season, and be able to bounce back with what he went through with his injury, and have the impact he has had is remarkable,” Treacy said.

Treacy spoke on the strength of the duo’s chemistry in the forward line and said it’s exciting to continue to develop together.

“(The chemistry) is coming good," Treacy said.

"We are two completely different blokes that have come together and share the same passion of playing footy, kicking goals, and getting the best out of each other, so it’s really exciting.”

Forward Sam Sturt was not surprised the young gun had such a promising 2023 season, crediting his hard work.

“He (Jye) has had a great season. He’s the youngest to ever kick 40 goals for Fremantle, so obviously it's a great achievement,” Sturt said.

“It’s a credit to his work rate. He’s had a big off-season, and he’s put in the work, so I’m not surprised he’s had such a great year.”

Young midfielder Neil Erasmus said what Amiss has achieved in 2023 is “incredible” and believes his teammate has some promising years ahead.

“For such a young player to be so dominant as a key forward is impressive, and the way he’s gone about it is going to hold him in good stead for the next couple of years,” Erasmus said.

Earlier in the year, Amiss signed an extension with Club through to the 2029 season, committing to Fremantle for the next six seasons.
